10 Step Couponing: Step 3: Types of Coupons

how to coupon

Step 3 in my 10 Step Couponing class is simple and important! What are we dealing with? We know what coupons are, but do you know what defines the different types?

MANUFACTURER COUPONS

  • Issued by the manufacturer or company of the product pictured on the coupon itself.
  • Usually has a barcode that starts with a number 5 or 9.
  • Accepted at any retailer that takes coupons.

STORE COUPONS

  • Issued by the individual store itself.
  • Has a barcode that begins with a number other than 5 or 9.
  • Usually has a store logo on it.
  • Accepted only at the store issuing the coupon.

E-COUPONS

  • Electronic coupons that are loaded onto a store loyalty card.
  • It’s redeemed at the time of purchase when the cashier scans your card.
  • Upromise and Saving Star are a couple of well-known e-coupon services.

  1. The little widget on the right side that says "money saved from coupons". What is that!? And where can I find one!? I am just starting on my coupon journey and I love your tips! Thanks so much!

    • Hi Leila! That "widget" is actually a graphic made especially for my blog by a very talented graphic artist! If you look closely at the barcode it says thefrugalette under. ;) Feel free to ask any questions! Happy couponing!

  2. I just wanted to Thank YOU! I needed these lessons so much. Im tryin hard to learn and this couponing class is super and you are too for putting them together for us! Thanks agian!!!!!!!

  3. This series is so great! I'm learning a lot. I wish cashiers would take read these posts and learn how to process coupons correctly! So many times I take the time to do everything correctly and make it easy for the cashier but they still get all fumbled up because they don't know how to apply the coupons…

    • It is odd that there wouldn't be more training in terms of coupons, it's such a big part of shopping these days! Glad you're enjoying the series..step 4 is up! :)

  4. I wish Canada worked the same way as the USA. Here we can only use ONE coupon for one item. Example If I buy 2 boxes of cereal and I have one coupon(which you can only use because they almost always say limit one per customer) Then I only get the discount on ONE box of the cereal. We also can not combine store and manufacturers coupons like a lot of places in the USA can. It makes very difficult to coupon the way you guys can and Im envious!!

Love the blog keep up the awesome work!

    • Isra Hashmi says:

Oh one per customer is not fun! That is hard to get good deals, and yes stacking coupons is the big way we save a lot of money here. Thanks for stopping by! :)
