Are You Maximizing Your Energy Savings?

I’m always looking for ways to cut my bills. If there’s even an extra dollar here or there, I look into it because we all know that extra dollar adds up over time! One of our big expenses is our energy bill. Five people using all sorts of energy resources at the same time drains our budget.

Between the big appliances, heaters, air conditioners, phone chargers, laptops, incandescent lighting…the energy bill is definitely one under our control! Reducing our energy use and carbon footprint is everyone’s responsibility.
But, did you know saving the environment will also save you money?

Living in a rental, the only thing we have complete control over is our lighting. We can’t change the fridge, dryer or heater, but we can absolutely change every bulb! Cha-Ching!

Did you know simply changing our light bulb usage can save us OVER $500 a year!

How do you like them one dollars?
  • Turning off the lights you don’t use, will save you $274.
  • Turn off a single 100 watt light bulb from running constantly will save you $131.
  • Replace 10 60 watt light bulbs with CFLs and save $123.

That’s a whopping $528, just by adjusting your light bulb habits.

No excuses! With prices starting at just $2 for a 3 pack of bulbs, the “too expensive” excuse doesn’t work anymore. To help you save even more..check out the coupon in my sidebar——->

$2 off ANY #GELighting CFLs redeemable at Walmart.. With most bulbs starting at $2.50..that’s *almost* free light bulbs!

I went shopping at Walmart. My first priority was changing all the kitchen bulbs. There are no less then the kitchen alone! Since that’s where we spend most of our time, I decided to switch those immediately. I chose GE Energy Smart and Soft White lighting. I was worried that the ktichen would look something akin to a hospital with all the fluorescent lighting.

I was pleasantly surprised to not be cooking in laboratory lighting. It’s soft and gentle on the eyes. But boy can they light up the room, and those are only 45 watts! My son even said, “Wow, I can see everything now!” Oops, looks like I waited too long to change the bulbs.

Check out this funny commerical GE Lighting has for making the change. Definitely makes “cents” to frugal folks, like me!

You know I’m social! I’m chatting up more ways to save on our energy bills on twitter and Facebook!
Have you made the switch to CFLs?
