The Lazy Couponer’s Way to Save Thousands

Pick a Store, Any Store

Coupons save money, we know that. But, why do SO many people not use coupons? It takes, time, organization and let’s face it..doesn’t it give you a headache making a list for every store, getting match-ups and finally shopping!

Pick ONE store and give it your all! This is the best advice I can give. I used to try to hit 3 different stores every week. All I ended up with was my head spinning and wanting to give up completely.

If you tend to buy more organic and natural foods:

  • Focus your couponing on drugstores and saving on toiletry and household products.
If you shop at big chain grocery stores:
  • Focus your couponing on groceries.

Don’t try to catch every deal, coupon and sale out there! You will save thousands of dollars by switching out just one of your stores.

The bulk of our food shopping is done at Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods. The money I save from getting our paper towels, toothpaste, shaving items and diapers (free) from drugstore promotions, gives me more room in my budget to buy organic and natural foods.

RITE ON!

It’s been a month since I updated My Coupon Savings 2012. I kept meaning to post it, but then decided to shop and add that receipt..and as you can see from  the picture..it was a rinse and repeat over and over.

I have a love affair like no other, and it’s first name is RITE. If you don’t live near a Rite Aid, or pass over it for it’s more well known cousins; Walgreens and CVS..you are missing out my friends. It’s a good thing I have a home and children to look after or I might be caught in Rite Aid everyday, twice a day.

So, What  is +UP with them?

  • Their cash back program is called +UPs. (money you get back on the bottom of your receipt).
  • Their loyalty program  is called Wellness.
  • You get 1 point for every dollar you spend (calculated BEFORE coupons people!)
  • 250 points gets you 10% off all Rite Aid brand products.
  • 500 points gets you a fab reward! (I got a FREE magazine subscription to Redbook.)
  • 500 points gets you 10% off the entire store for a year!
  • 1000 points gets you 20% off the entire store for a year! (Think Milk!)
  • They have Video Values, Load2Card, weekly AND monthly promos..cha-ching!
As of 6/10/12 I’m now over 1000 points, which means I’ll keep my Gold status, 20% discount through 2013!

  1. Nice! I'm terrible with coupons myself. This is good advice.

  2. I had to stop shopping at multiple stores too. Now we go to the place with the best selection and usually lower prices and try to use coupons w/sales. We try to stock up during the sales cycles so we don’t have to buy regular purchases at full price in between the cycles. I’m not the savviest at it but we save a decent amount of money!

  3. I use to be such an avid couponer, but since we purchase mainly whole, organic foods we purchase locally and in bulk to save. You still can coupon and purchase organic foods and save a bundle too! I love to see how much others still save and that there are smart shoppers! Thanks for sharing Isra!

  4. I pinned, great information!

  5. All of our food, with the exception of a few produce items, comes from Trader Joe's. I go to Stop & Shop for cat food/litter, paper products, and Buffalo Steaks for my husband. I don't use coupons because the paper in our area costs $5 and I wouldn't clip $5 worth of coupons from it. I have taken advantage of the S&S gas rewards program, last week I had a bonus 200 points w/purchase of $50 coupon from their home mailing – I bought extra cat litter to bring the total up).

I am brand loyal and feel that it is too hard for me to use coupons. If there is a little coupon thingy on the shelf next to a product I am buying, I'll grab the coupon, but I do not seek them out.

    • Just came from Trader Joe's today! We do the bulk of our shopping there, than cross the street to Whole Foods for most of our produce…and drugstores for toilet paper. :)

  6. This is great advice. I am a huge couponer but sometimes I end up collecting so many that I never use them. I usually hit up Whole Foods for most of my shopping since I love shopping organic.

  7. I really wish we had a Rite Aid here :(

  8. Most of the time we are too busy to shop several stores for savings, so we usually head for our favorites and save where we can. Thanks for posting!

  9. I love shopping and the only way to save was to look for the best deals offer. Thanks for sharing!
