Life Lesson Over Dinner: Another Reason to Eat at Home

Choose to be kind, over being right and you’ll be right everytime.

- Richard Carlson

I had turkey chili for dinner…with cinnamon toast.

What? You’ve never had it before?

Well, I never did either, until, well, I did.

I made this lovely spicy turkey chili and was missing some sweet, moist cornbread to go with it. Before my husband came home, he asked if we needed any groceries. Why, yes I do!

I asked for cornbread. I got cinnamon toast.

My dear husband didn’t grow up here in the US. The classic American dish is lost on him. So when he couldn’t find cornbread, he bought, in his mind, the next best thing. I tried my very best to not look disappointed when I asked what happened to the cornbread.

HIM, I couldn’t find any, so I got cinnamon toast. I love cinnamon toast and it’s sweet like cornbread, and it’s…bread.

ME,Oh, yeah, it is sweet, it’s different.

I bit my tongue, swallowed my pride and ate it. If I’ve learned anything about going through tough times, it’s this, “Don’t sweat the small stuff…and it’s all small stuff.”

If we are:

1.Healthy

2.Safe

3.Fed

we have enough.

It’s funny where we learn life lessons, and yet another reason to eat dinner together as a family!

And guess what…it tasted pretty good too!

  3. sounds delicious especially since I am pregnant! Great combination!

  4. By the way, you were sweet to bite your tongue and just go with it because admit it, it tasted yummy anyhow, right?

  5. You're so right. We should definitely count our blessings and don't sweat the small stuff. There was a day when I would have gotten all worked up over that. Although I would have never thought of it myself, I think your husband is onto something. I have a loaf of cinnamon bread in the kitchen that now needs some spicy chili. :)

That sounds like something my husband would do… most likely by mistake… but you know. I love the life lesson learned. Life is full of surprises and we never know what we will learn along the way… like how good chili and cinnamon bread go together! :)

  7. At least he came home with bread :)
We had Chili last night too I made yeast rolls..never had cornbread with chili before.

  8. I can actually see how this would taste good!

There are many times I've wished I had bitten my tongue – and I can't think of a single time when I chose to remain silent and then regretted it.
