At the beginning of every week in 2013 I’ll be sharing a different way to get happy for FREE. Being happy doesn’t cost anything except your decision to try. I show you how I got happy that week and hope to inspire you to do the same. Join my Get Happy for FREE challenge, you have nothing to lose and a whole lot of smiles to gain!
I’m determined to get happy for free.
Last week I started a year long challenge on the blog how to be happy! I’m so convinced that being happy doesn’t cost a thing, I’m putting my money where my mouth is.
I’m giving $5 of my own money every week to one reader who accepts the challenge and comes back to tell me what they did!
Living well on less means just that. Don’t expect things to make you happy. It’s a quick thrill and once the bill comes in, the thrill is gone.
Real lasting happiness comes from experiences, relationships and things that money can’t buy.
WEEK 2
This week we are going somewhere out of the ordinary.
If there is a local mom and pop shop in your neighborhood you pass by regularly, why not stop and check it out? Maybe the corner bakery always smells so delightful and you’ve wanted to peek inside, go and say hi to the owner!
Or how about a park or walking trail you’ve never been to, but always heard great things about.
This week’s challenge is all about visiting somewhere or something that is new to you. Doing the same old thing everyday can bring us down. Seeing new-to-you things wakes up our senses and makes us appreciate where we live.
Go somewhere new and than come back and tell me about it in the comments for a chance to win a $5 Amazon code!
Here is how my challenge went this week:
Week 2: Go Somewhere Out of the Ordinary

This is so far out of my comfort zone, I just had to do it!
I got free passes for the New England Auto Show at the convention center. I’m a very girly girl. Dresses, bows, pink things and pretty. That’s me.
Fast cars, mpg, monster trucks..so not me! Little did I know how much fun we would have…

It took place at the Boston Convention Center. I love to photograph the city from a visitor’s standpoint.

Little girls love checkin’ out cars too!

This was better than any playground. Trying out the driver’s seat..in every. single. car. The next day he told me he had a dream about the car show.

My frugal toddler was only interested in checking out the minivan.

Mama likes!
Going somewhere new to us was a success. We hope to find a new place to check out once a month!

Hi! I'm Isra, aka The Frugalette. I took my family from fancy to frugal in 3 years, with 3 kids and 1 income, oh and found the meaning of life too! To read more about my fancy life gone frugal,

Oh, I love this challenge! I’ll have to try and figure something out this week so I can play next week.
Hi Ashley, every week is a different challenge! If you can think of somewhere new to check out this week, leave a comment by Saturday to be eligible for the $5. I know you have a bunch of places you could check out.
Love your blog! I have to tell you, I’m a closet frugalista. I was so excited to save 90% on my grocery bill last week! I love your attitude. So much of life is taken up witht he worries we have over the things we don’t. It shouldn’t be that way. Thanks for reminder.
Thanks Adrienne! Love closet frugalista.
You definitely made this outing look fun! That red car (what is it, exactly?) does look cute!
I have strep, but once we’re done with that I’ll see what we can do about going somewhere new this week, just for you
Aww, hope you feel better. If you get out for medicine or some herbal tea, make it a different store and I think you’ll be all set.
Oh and the car? A BMW. *swoon* hehehe
I went to a place I had always thought wasn’t worth it, since it’s probably not what it claims to be: The Garden Tomb. But I loved it and I enjoyed a gorgeous, peaceful afternoon there! You can read all about it on my blog:

This is great Jessa! Exactly what I hoped the challenge would do for someone else, discover a new place that they love!
Totally wanted to participate this week, but we were so dang busy and the weather was so horrendously awful. Looks like the auto show was fun, though! And I enjoyed reading about Jessa’s adventure….incredibly amazing place to have so close to you! We’ll have to try this one another week and just double up on our happiness.
Missed you this week, but I totally understand about the weather! It’s crazy cold. I love the doubling up on happiness, sounds even better!
The weather has been so crazy right? I love the double up on happiness..nothing wrong with that!
I forgot to start joining you on these weekly challenges! I’ll remember for tomorrow, though. This will have to be one I remember for this summer, though; there is a lot of exploring we can do around here for free.
So happy you’ll be joining the challenge!
This is one of my ongoing life missions! I always find myself trying to be a “tourist in my own town”, looking for new places, faces, and experiences. It really does bring me happiness, and then I am abe to share it with friends and family. I discovered a waterfall a few minutes from my house that I did not know existed when I went out with my daughter for a Mystery Discovery Adventure!
Aww I love this Adrianne! I love being a tourist in my own city, we take for granted where we live too often!
