At the beginning of every week in 2013 I’ll be sharing a different way to get happy for FREE. Being happy doesn’t cost anything except your decision to try. I show you how I got happy that week and hope to inspire you to do the same. Join my Get Happy for FREE challenge, you have nothing to lose and a whole lot of smiles to gain!
Happy is not about things, but experiences. Every week I post a different way that helps to fill us with happiness and remind us what’s really important in life. I show you what I did for the challenge, and hope that you take the challenge right along with me!
We have gone places, taken downtime and this week I’m going to dust off my pens and write to some very special people in my life.
The easiest way to show someone you care and give yourself that warm, fuzzy feeling? Write to them.
Amid all the texting, liking and following, you may think you know how they are..but this will make their day. Guaranteed. And if someone you care about is happy because of something you did, guess how good it will make you feel!
To send a letter is a good way to go somewhere without moving anything but your heart. ~Phyllis Theroux
WEEEK 5:
We are going to write to someone.
This week in the U.S. is Valentine’s Day, so this should be an easy challenge! Write to someone, whether it’s a card or letter, take the time to put your thoughts to paper.
Week 5: Write to Someone

The nice people at Felix Doolittle sent me these elegant Petite Love Notes and personalized labels to help me with my challenge this week! I love local businesses, and this one is very special. Felix Fu is an artist from Hong Kong, now settled in Newton, MA.
The stationery is all printed with his exquisite artwork.
The petite love notes are just that, small enough to tuck in with a gift or in a lunchbox.

I sent my friend, Laura from MOMables my homemade chai spice with my Felix Doolittle personalized label that reads ‘From The Kitchen Of Isra. Eat Well.’
The card, appropriately, says ‘You Make Me Happy.’

How to Make Crock Pot Biryani

Hi! I'm Isra, aka The Frugalette. I took my family from fancy to frugal in 3 years, with 3 kids and 1 income, oh and found the meaning of life too! To read more about my fancy life gone frugal,

My best friend from childhood moved away when I was 17 (14 years ago). We’ve seen each other a few times since and keep in touch somewhat. When she first moved we wrote to each other nearly daily and that eventually stopped. I’d love to actually write to her again so that’s what I’m going to do. Thank you so much for the inspiration!
Aww, I love that Amber! Nothing like a childhood friend and you reminded me to write to mine!
Writing hand-written notes is a dying art. Thanks for the reminder! I have a secret prayer partner who’s birthday is this week and I’m going to write her a b-day card, and I’m going to give her some notecards as a gift.
Awesome idea! I totally agree writing has become a dying art, which is sad because everyone loves to get a handwritten note!
I wrote to my dad – it’s his birthday on Wednesday!
Happy Birthday maryanne’s dad!
Great idea! Handwritten notes are a lost art. To me, there is nothing more personal than receiving a note from someone. I still take the time to write thank you notes.
I totally believe in thank you notes! It is a lost art, one that I hope doesn’t go away forever!
Love this week’s challenge. I just received 2 handwritten notes in the mail this week and they both meant the world to me!
Wow, so lucky 2 in one week! I’m lucky if I get 1 in 2 months!
I love those cards! They’re almost like Pennsylvania Dutch designs. I’m going to have to figure out who to write a letter to.
The cards are exquisite!
Personal hand-written notes are the best. I take time every month and write out 5 notes to women that belong in clubs with me. I do send them as anonymous and it is cute hearing the buzz every month they create. It really lets others know they are cared for. I write them anonymous because I don’t want the recognition but by doing it as anonymous and not just as a friend it really gets them talking and seems to spread the joy.
I love this Brandy!! I’ve thought about leaving anonymous notes before! How special they must feel to get a note of encouragement and just because! Thank you so much for sharing it’s inspired me!
I love sending and receiving good old fashion mail. It’s a nice way to put a smily on my face or to put a smile on someone else’s face.
I like the challenge you’ve given yourself. Just goes to show, money can’t make you happy.
Thanks so much Tiffany! It’s my mantra, being happy doesn’t cost anything!
I write all the time. My dad works for the USPS and the whole time growing up he’s talked about how snail mail is going out of style and soon no one will know what a post office is! I always try to write loved ones, even just sending a post card that says “I miss you” or a drawing my daughter drew.
Ooh you gave me a great idea with the postcards! I used to write them all the time!
This is actually one of my favourite lifelong hobbies! I have been busy, so haven’t written a letter in about a month – but will write one this week for the challenge. I have friends who live overseas/penpals that I regularly write to.
I saw your pic on IG, how beautiful is that stationery! Writing letters has been a lifelong passion of mine too. So happy you’ll be reaching out to your old friends again.
Hi There! When I read your comment on my blog I had to come over and see your posts. This is one of the most amazing ideas! Do you mind if I share it with my readers?
Aww, thanks so much Bobbie! Yes, of course! The more happy people, the better!
I’m going to write a letter to my husband. Even though we live under the same roof, we are often to busy to sit down and talk or write notes to each other like we used to. I’m going to try to start that back up again!
I used to write to my husband all the time at the beginning of or marriage, and Im trying to do more again too.
What a great idea. I sat down and wrote to my future MIL. I’ve been saying I’m going to do it for weeks and finally did. I included pictures of the girls. I’m sure she will be pleasantly surprised.
That is so sweet! What a lucky MIL she is!
I love that you’re doing this series! I am so addicted to pretty note cards and stationary, and am pretty old fashioned about letter writing. I’ve lived in many places and have friends all over the world that I enjoy sending notes to.
I’m really loving the series as well, the series makes me happy! Love that you keep in touch with everyone you’ve met still with letter writing.
Our community is writing to kids at the hospitals – so cool!
I love that! Thanks for sharing Lena!
I wrote a letter to my sister! We love writing handwritten letters back & forth! The best part is that it’s always a pleasant surprise
Aww I love that! I hope my girls write to each other when they grow up.
We have just moved from Texas to Ohio. I wrote and sent Valentine’s to our friends back in Texas. The most special package went to a family who had quickly become friends with our whole family. All the kids got along so well and we will miss them greatly.
It’s so hard moving with kids, especially when they grew so close to everyone. Love that you sent them cards!
What a timely topic for me this week, Isra. My mom moved clear across the country a few months ago and I’ve been missing her like my right arm.
I sat down early the other morning and wrote her a long letter – telling her how much I love and miss her, and also filling her in on some of the day-to-day antics she’s missing from our life.
It felt good to write it. I know that she’ll be excited to read it…and I popped a pound of her favorite coffee into the box, too!
My mom has reluctantly joined the world of texting and emailing only to keep up with her kids! But everytime I send her something written I know she adores it!
I wrote a few letters with an old-timey nib pen and inkwell! And now I’m going to go and scrub the ink off my fingers…

Oh my an inkwell! That is fabulous!! I wouldn’t even know where to buy one if I wanted it. haha
