Disclosure: Disney provided me an all expense paid trip in return for my coverage of the event and movie. All opinions are 100% mine alone.
The other night I attended the world premiere for the highly anticipated Monsters University. It was held on infamous Hollywood Blvd. at the El Capitan theater. Big names, bright lights, and really, really great food; all the things you imagine were there.
I took over 150 pics…in a span of 1 1/2 hours. Yeah, there was a lot to take in. My head kept spinning trying to see it all. Since the movie is all about going to college, the premiere was in the theme of a tailgate party that took place before the movie screening.
In no particular order, here are my top ten highlights of the Monsters University Premiere!
1.SEEING BILLY CRYSTAL ROAR
When/If you go to an event like this, just look for the crowds. If you start to see a gathering, you’ll find the big stars! I noticed the blue carpet stopped moving and everything was gathering in one area, so I went there. As I turned around I saw this! Snap!
2.BEING THIS CLOSE TO GWEN STEFANI
I took this pic with my phone! I grew up in Orange County, CA. Gwen is a hometown hero from there. I’ve been following her since No Doubt used to play local college campuses so it was really fun to meet her and snap this ultra close pic!
3.PREMIERE OUTFIT UNDER $100
Just because I was attending a big Hollywood premiere doesn’t mean I suddenly have a big Hollywood budget. Thanks to my local Middlesex Common Old Navy and Nordstrom Rack, my whole outfit cost less than $100. Best find: wedges for nine bucks, originally fifty!
SHIRT:Old Navy ($3.99 clearance) JEANS: Old Navy ($34.50 Half-flare) SHOES: ( $9.90 Nordstrom Rack) SCARF: Old Navy($10.00) EARRINGS: Old Navy ($5.95) TOTAL:$64.34
4.CUPCAKES THE SIZE OF A QUARTER
These were the cutest little cupcakes done by bakedbymelissa.com. They are no bigger than the size of a quarter! Just a one biter and and you can taste every flavor and frosting there is. They were sealed individually inside plastic balls that were in a massive gumball machine. Put a token in and get a cupcake out.
5.MONSTERS UNIVERSITY SPIRIT SQUAD
What’s a proper tailgate party without a Spirit Squad? They were welcoming all the tailgaters, and I mean every last one with a scare and scream! Also, if you visit El Capitan between June 21- Aug. 8, you get to see Mike & Sulley live on stage with the Spirit Squad in the Monsters University Pep Rally!
6.MARCHING BAND PERFORMANCE
The Monsters University marching band stole the show! They walked down to the end of the tailgate party and got to work getting the crowd moving.
7.KID MOVIE WITH KIDS
Gwen Stefani’s boys Zuma and Kingston came and so did a lot of other kids! There were more celebrity kid sightings at the premiere than any Beverly Hills playgroup. Now that I’m a mom, the kids were almost as interesting to see as their famous parents.
8.KID FRIENDLY PREMIERE
Lots of kids came and the tailgate party was ready! It was awesome to see a “kid movie” have a kid-friendly movie premiere. A bouncy slide filled with huge ‘Monster Mike’ eyeballs. There was also an arts and crafts station, all ready to welcome the kids and make sure they had fun too.
9.POSH TAILGATE FOOD
Tailgate food, elevated! Along with black truffle mac ‘n cheese, steak burritos and warm Cinnabons, there was a fresh, beautiful caprese salad to get started with.
10.BLOGGING BUDDIES TEAM UP
OK, So I may have left the best for last. Cheesy, corny, and everything in between, one of the best parts of attending these over the top events is being able to spend it with bloggers I’m honored to call friends. From L-R me, FabulousFindsbyTiffany, 7onaShoestring, FormulaMom and SheSaved.
What do you think? Do I have a future in reporting Hollywood events?
Monsters University scares into theaters everywhere June 21st!
